On Tuesday, March 5, the University of Central Florida was awarded the 2013 Institutional Excellence Award from the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE).
Dr. Christine Stanley, chair of the association’s Inclusive Excellence Awards Committee, said the award “recognizes institutions like the University of Central Florida who have shown demonstrable progress in promoting and sustaining innovative diversity efforts within their campus community.” Dr. Stanley commended UCF for its efforts in the areas of institutional leadership, institutional transformation, recruitment and retention, outreach, and professional development.
Dr. Valarie G. King, Director of UCF’s Office of Diversity Initiatives, said she is pleased with the award because “out of the many universities in the U.S., my peers selected UCF . . . Â This is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Barbara Thompson, Assistant Director in the Office of Diversity Initiatives, accepted the award on behalf of UCF at the NADOHE’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.Â Â
